Canada Study Permit from Bangladesh: A Practical Guide
Studying in Canada starts with an acceptance letter from a designated learning institution and a study permit application to IRCC. The general rules, including attestation letters and the 2026 cap, are in our study permit guide. This page covers what applicants in Bangladesh usually need to plan for.
Before you apply
- Choose a designated learning institution and program carefully. A school that is not designated cannot support a study permit.
- Get your attestation letter, if you need one. Most applicants do. Master's and doctoral students at public institutions are exempt in 2026.
- Understand that the Student Direct Stream, which some Bangladeshi applicants once used, is no longer available.
Documents
- Academic records from Bangladesh, with certified English translations where the originals are in Bengali
- Passport, valid for the whole study period if possible
- Proof of funds for tuition, living costs and travel. Keep clear records of where the money came from, since officers look at the source and history of funds, not just the balance. IRCC updates the living-cost amount each year.
- A clear study plan explaining why this program, this school and this stage of your life
Biometrics
Most applicants give fingerprints and a photo at the Canada Visa Application Centre run by VFS Global in Bangladesh. From March 7, 2026, VFS asks applicants to upload their Biometric Instruction Letter when they book. Book only after you receive that letter from IRCC.
Medical exam
Some applicants need an immigration medical exam with an IRCC-approved panel physician. IRCC keeps the official list of panel physicians, and the physician normally sends your results to IRCC electronically. Do not book until IRCC tells you an exam is needed, unless you are sure.
Common problems
- Funds that cannot be explained or documented
- A study plan that does not fit your academic history
- Documents that do not match each other
- Missing or uncertified translations
